I found the overall experience of swim lab pretty disappointing considering the claims they make in their advertising. I arrived initially and no one was there to greet us, I ended up walking around the centre trying to find someone to help which wasn’t a great start to the week (when you are spending thousands on a trip some sort of warm welcome would has been nice).

We selected a physio online when we booked but when I arrived I discovered it was someone else, I think the guy who all the good reviews about might have left as we didn’t see him when we were there.

I found the land physio very basic for our daughter and the equipment available, considering the cost and the fact you can’t opt out of land physio pretty disappointing. No suitable seating for your child just a lot of yoga mats piled on top of each other to make seats which are never quite the correct height. My daughter takes a while to warm up to a physio but even after a week she absolutely hated these sessions. The way the way the physio held and moved my daughter seemed to me like he wasn’t very experienced, having worked with a lot of physiotherapists over the years I feel like I know what ‘Good’ looks like and I would have gained more by doing sessions with her on my own at home.

The pool sessions were very busy, it was always 3 children and 3 adults in a small pool. We do hydrotherapy at home twice a month and it felt like this was a step down from that, it was mainly the physio carrying my daughter around the pool. My daughter enjoyed the sessions in the pool by the end of the week but I think that was mainly because she found them quite easy. We saw no development during or after the intensive and unlike other intensives our daughter had a lot of energy in the evenings, considering she was doing 3 hours a day at swim lab she should have been pretty tired if she was being worked hard.

Overall pretty disappointing, I’d recommend just booking a holiday with a heated pool as you’d get just as much if not more from it.

Nothing against the physio we were with, my
daughter like him and he did his best in the circumstances. Ultimately I don’t think he has a huge amount of experience and I think they oversell the intensive compared to what they can actually deliver.

Unfortunately, our overall experience with the centre was not positive. We booked an intensive hydrotherapy programme well in advance, but later needed to request changes due to significant medical circumstances. Despite giving several months’ notice and explaining the health-related reasons, we were told bookings could only be moved once and that only a partial refund would apply. No flexibility or exception was considered. During an already stressful medical period, this felt unnecessarily rigid and added extra pressure.

During the programme itself, most sessions took place in a shared pool with multiple children, therapists, and parents. The environment was often busy, loud, and overstimulating. While this setup may work for some children, it wasn’t suitable for a child with sensory sensitivities. The noise and activity made it difficult to engage, and sessions were frequently distressing rather than therapeutic. Sessions with fewer people in the pool were noticeably more successful, which highlighted how important a calmer environment would have been.
When we shared this feedback with management, we were told that the programme “isn’t for everyone.” This felt dismissive rather than supportive. We had hoped for a more collaborative and understanding response, especially in a setting designed for children with additional needs.
There are clearly caring therapists here, but the centre’s policies and structure feel quite inflexible. For families with complex or changing medical needs, this may not be the right fit.

This was our grandson Leo’s 4th visit and once again he responded brilliantly to the programme Paul etc set out for him. Great work from all involved
